The collateral consequences of a federal conviction - the gift that keeps on giving - are enough!

Most of us can forgive and forget; we just don't want the other person to forget that we forgave.

The Rehabilitated Project was started as a nationwide
campaign by Mr. Benninghoff to assist ex-offenders re-
integrate after serving their debt to society, a debt to those
like Professor Martin, seems never able to be repaid
The Rehabilitated Project (TRP) was begun by Mr. Benninghoff after enduring years of collateral consequences arising from his status as an ex-offender.  Through TRP, Mr. Benninghoff has helped gather a nationwide Coalition of Support for Charlie Rangel's "Second Chance Act for Ex-Offenders of 2007" act (HR 623) which is designed to provide a chance for federal ex-offenders to clean up their records after completing extremely exhausting requirements.  A detailed description is found at TRP's Site.  The articles have also been featured in American Chronicle and the Roanoke Times, among others.  In this capacity, Mr. Benninghoff has been interviewed by National Public Radio (NPR) and his interviewed can be listened to by clicking HERE.  Additionally, Mr. Benninghoff is writing a series of articles to heighten the public's awareness about the continued effect of a federal conviction as opposed to those from, say, California where after a while even murders can have their records expunged and cleaned up.   This is not possible for even minor crimes in the federal system, a burden imposed solely by the federal government as all states provide their ex-offenders some for of relief.
Impeachment of a witness...
It is important, at this point, to note one of the major differences between a federal conviction and a state conviction.  Wit a state conviction, even a felonious murderer with multiple convictions may obtain a "Certificate of Rehabilitation" which would stop any attorney from trying to impeach him as a witness during a trial.  However, with but a single federal conviction for a low-grade white-collar crime, a federal ex-offender's testimony can be impeached.  Thus, a jury cannot even hear about the murderous, bloody rampage of a state ex-offender but federal ex-offenders are impeached for life by disreputable lawyers who seek to have them disregarded, devalued and shunned for life.  This fact is but one of the many reasons why Mr. Benninghoff formed TRP and actively works to achieve its stated goals.
